About the Mod

Our comprehensive upgrade for the Apex 460 (and all other branded versions of the Alctron T11A) replaces the mic's entire signal path: capsule, circuit, tube, and transformer. We also modify the power supply to correct its B+ voltage.

We install our circuit, including a selected low-noise 6072 tube and custom-wound transformer. The new circuit reduces the mic's noise and distortion dramatically, due both to our premium components and to design improvements in the circuit topology. The new circuit has higher sensitivity than the stock design, which improves the mic's signal to noise ratio.

We replace the mic's 32mm K67 capsule with our 34mm , an edge-terminated true large condenser design based on the AKG CK-12.

How it works

After you buy this service, see our for instructions on packing and shipping your mic. Be sure to print the Service Request form linked from that page.

Send us the microphone and power supply. It is not necessary, nor recommended, to send us the shockmount or cables or case. But it is critical to pack the mic and power supply carefully; both are heavy enough to damage themselves if the box is dropped.

The typical turnaround time is 5 business days. We can provide more detailed turnaround time estimates after you purchase the service.

Because this upgrade replaces the mic's entire signal path, it can be used on microphones whose capsule, tube, circuit, or audio transformer has failed. The upgrade does not replace the PSU, but we do offer various power supply replacement and upgrade options at additional cost, if your mic's PSU has failed or exhibits hum or noise problems.

Compatibility

We can upgrade the Apex 460 (all versions), the BadAax T11A, the Alctron T11-A, the Carvin CTM-100. We believe this upgrade is compatible with the Nady TCM-1150. 

This upgrade is not appropriate for tube mics with pad or filter switches,  such as the Avantone CV-12 -- although we have other mods available for those models. This upgrade is not compatible with the Nady TCM-1050.
